The High Court today stayed for one week the verdict of Special Judge Court-6 of Dhaka that granted bail to Sohel Rana, one of the owners of Rana Plaza, in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charge of amassing illegal wealth.

A High Court bench led by Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder passed the order after a virtual hearing over a criminal revision petition filed by the ACC.

Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

During the hearing, advocate Md Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the ACC and the deputy attorney general represented the state.

Lawyers Alamgir Hossain and Md Kaisar Zahid stood for Sohel Rana.

Earlier on June 4, Abdul Khaleque, the main owner of the collapsed "Rana Plaza" building and father of Sohel Rana, died from Covid-19 at his residence in Savar.

On May 17, a virtual court of the special judge court granted the bail to Sohel Rana.

On December 31 in 2017, Deputy Director of the ACC Mahbubul Alam filed the case with Savar Model Police Station against Rana on charge of amassing illegal wealth of Tk2.54 crore.

Sohel Rana is the owner of Rana Plaza at Savar that collapsed on April 24, 2013, killing more than 1,100 people.

Sohel is in jail now as several cases have been filed against him.
