Govt to set up second tribunal for trials of genocide during July uprising
According to court sources, the ICT prosecution team has 17 prosecutors, while there are 24 investigation officers at the tribunal’s investigative agency

The government has decided to form a second tribunal for speedy trials of crimes against humanity and genocide committed during the July uprising last year.
Confirming the matter today (23 April), Chief Prosecutor of International Crimes Tribunal Mohammad Tazul Islam said, "The process of establishing a second tribunal is underway. Currently, the judicial activities are taking place in one tribunal. The trials will gain pace if another tribunal is set up."
According to court sources, the ICT prosecution team has 17 prosecutors, while there are 24 investigation officers at the tribunal's investigative agency.
As of 10 April, the ICT has received more than 300 complaints, including those regarding crimes against humanity during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Among these complaints, 39 are currently being investigated. 22 miss cases have been filed following preliminary proof in 22 complaints, and a total of 141 people have been accused in these miss cases, according to the complaint registrar.
Among the 141 accused, 54 individuals have been arrested, and 87 accused are currently on the run.
