Five sentenced to death for killing school

A Khulna court sentenced five people to death for killing a school teacher in 2018.

The court also fined the convicts Tk50,000 each. 

The convicts are Kazi Murad Hossain, Kazi Rounakul Islam Rono, Kazi Farhad Hossain, Saiful Islam and Zakir. Of them, Zakir was tried in absentia.

Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Nazrul Islam Howladar announced the verdict on Sunday afternoon.

According to the prosecution, Kazi Tasfin Hossain Toyon, 33, a teacher of Ideal Kindergarten School and son of Kazi Ferdous Hossain of Mujgunni area, was killed by the convicts on August 28, 2018 and the body was dumped in a water body.  Later, victim's father filed a case. After investigation, police arrested Saiful Islam and recovered the body of Tafsin from the water body.

Police submitted charge sheet against seven people on December 10, 2018.

After examining the records and witnesses, Judge Nazrul Islam handed down the verdict acquitting Kazi Sabbir Hossain Fahim and Kazi Masum as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
