Fake WhatsApp account using ACC official’s photo used for extortion in Ctg; GD filed

A General Diary (GD) was filed with the Double Mooring Police Station in Chattogram over allegations that unidentified individuals were using a fake WhatsApp account bearing the photo and identity of an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official to extort money.
Subel Ahmed, deputy director of ACC Chattogram District Office‑1, filed the GD on 23 December 2025.
According to the GD, on 22 December last year, Subel Ahmed learned that a group was operating a WhatsApp account using his photo and identity. The imposter was reportedly using the number to impersonate Subel and mislead the public.

"I have confirmed this through different sources. I have no involvement in this fraudulent activity. My name and photo are being misused to mislead ordinary people, causing social and personal defamation. Therefore, it is essential to record this matter in the police diary for future reference," the GD quoted him as saying.
When asked about the matter, Sub Inspector (SI) Md Akhtaruzzaman Sohag, who is also the investigation officer of the case, told The Business Standard that after receiving the GD application, the police applied to the court for permission to investigate.
"Once permission is granted, we will begin the probe," he said.
