ACC to sue ex-Ctg mayor Nasir over Tk14cr unexplained assets
The commission found Tk40.62 crore in total acquired assets against acceptable income of Tk26.62 crore as of June 2024.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved filing a case against former Chattogram City Corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin for allegedly acquiring Tk13.99 crore in assets beyond his known sources of income.
ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan confirmed the decision today (14 September).
According to the ACC investigation, Nasir's total acquired assets were worth Tk40,61,78,835, while his acceptable income stood at Tk26,62,37,265. The difference was Tk13,99,41,570.

As of 30 June 2024, Nasir had Tk2,30,18,910 in immovable assets and Tk26,38,01,285 in movable assets, according to the investigation documents. His liabilities stood at Tk6,18,97,008, leaving net assets of Tk22,49,23,187 after liabilities were deducted.
The investigation also found that he had spent Tk18,12,55,648 on family and other expenses up to that date. Adding the expenditure to his net assets brought his total acquired assets to Tk40,61,78,835, the ACC said.
Saidur Rahman Khan said Nasir had allegedly acquired Tk13,99,41,570 through corruption, abuse of power and dishonest means and kept the assets in his possession inconsistently with his known sources of income.
The allegations fall under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004 and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.
The ACC has approved filing a regular case against Nasir under the relevant provisions, the secretary said.
Nasir served as mayor of Chattogram City Corporation from 2015 to 2020.
