Expelled Narayanganj BNP leader placed on 2-day remand in extortion case
Senior Judicial Magistrate Haider Ali of Narayanganj passed the order

A Narayanganj court has granted a two-day remand for Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury, recently expelled from his post as organising secretary of the BNP's Fatullah unit, in a case filed over extortion.
The order was issued this afternoon (18 May) by Senior Judicial Magistrate Haider Ali of Narayanganj.
Earlier, police sought a seven-day remand for Riyad. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved a two-day remand, according to Court Police Inspector Kaiyum Khan.
Following the remand order, tension flared in the court premises as supporters of Riyad verbally abused Advocate Bari Bhuiyan, general secretary of the Fatullah BNP unit, who appeared in court representing the police. Police later escorted him to safety.
Earlier, an audio clip had gone viral in which Riyad was allegedly heard demanding money from a factory owner. Following the controversy, Riyad was arrested at the airport on 15 May while on his way to Thailand.
Later that day, a BNP press release signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced Riyad's expulsion from the party. By afternoon, police filed an extortion case against him, under which he has now been remanded.
