Ex-state minister Tajul Islam shown arrested in July Uprising murder case
The case was filed in connection with the death of a Md Salahuddin Sumon in an area under the jurisdiction of Khilgaon Police Station during the July Uprising
A Dhaka court has granted a police request to show Captain (retd) AB Tajul Islam, former state minister for Liberation War Affairs of the ousted Awami League government, arrested in a murder case.
The case was filed in connection with the death of a Md Salahuddin Sumon in an area under the jurisdiction of Khilgaon Police Station during the July Uprising, said Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq's court approved the application today (8 September), following a request by Khilgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Muhammad Asadur Rahman on 2 September.
Tajul Islam, who has been in jail since his arrest by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on 20 August 2024, was produced before the court wearing a helmet, a bulletproof vest, and handcuffs.
He was later sent back to jail after the hearing.
According to the case file, Md Salahuddin Sumon was shot by miscreants while participating in the July Uprising on 19 July last year and died on the spot. The victim's wife filed the murder case, in which she named former prime minister Sheikh Hasina as an accused.
