Dhaka courts allow filing of cheque dishonour cases thru e-mail

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Chief Judicial Magistrate courts have decided to take up the filing of cheque dishonour cases through email amid the ongoing closure stemmed out of the coronavirus outbreak.

Litigants have been requested to lodge cheque dishonour cases with their respective cognizance courts through e-mail.  

Then, upon receiving a court order, a plaintiff can give his statement under section 200 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The hearing on those cases will take place in virtual courts.

On Thursday, Dhaka Bar Association issued a circular, signed by its General Secretary Md Hossain Ali Khan Hasan to this end.

Hossain Ali Khan Hasan said the decision has been taken after discussing with the leaders of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Chief Judicial Magistrate associations.

Ataur Rahman Khan Ruku, library secretary to Dhaka Bar Association, said the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Chief Judicial Magistrate courts have given approval to the filing of the cheque dishonour lawsuits. Victims will now be able to file cases via email.
