Court orders travel ban on ex-army chief Aziz Ahmed's brother Anis
Earlier today, Anti-Corruption Commission Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain submitted the application seeking a travel ban on Anis.
A Dhaka court today (25 January) imposed a travel ban on Anis Ahmed, brother of former Bangladesh Army chief Gen (retd) Aziz Ahmed, over allegations of abuse of power, irregularities and corruption.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed Md Riaz Hossain, bench assistant of the court.
Earlier in the day, ACC Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain submitted the application seeking a travel ban on Anis.
According to the application, an investigation is currently underway into allegations against former army chief Gen (retd) Aziz Ahmed, including abuse of power, various irregularities and corruption.
The allegations include acquiring assets beyond known sources of income, both in his own name and in the names of family members, as well as laundering money abroad through banks and hundi channels to conduct business and purchase properties in Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai.
The application further states that, based on reliable information, [ACC has found that] Anis has been acting as an associate in the alleged activities and is attempting to leave the country.
"For the sake of a proper investigation, it is necessary to impose a travel ban on the accused person from travelling overseas," the application said.
