Court orders seizure, freezing of Nassa Group Chairman Nazrul's assets
The estimated value of these assets is Tk180.37 crore.
A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 53 land documents, including 162 kathas of plots at the Jolshiri housing project in Purbachal, and the freezing of three bank accounts belonging to Nassa Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder in connection with ongoing corruption allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez issued the order today (18 November) following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Of the assets, 16 land deeds are located in Tejgaon, 30 in Badda and seven deeds covering 162 kathas at the Jolshiri project. The estimated value of these assets is Tk180.37 crore.
In addition, the three bank accounts contain Tk2.02 crore.
The ACC's investigating officer, Shahjahan Miraj, filed the petition seeking to freeze the assets.
According to the petition, Nazrul amassed over Tk781 crore through bribery, corruption and abuse of power. These assets are disproportionate to his known sources of income, for which a case has been filed.
Investigation sources said the accused has been attempting to sell or transfer his movable and immovable assets.
If such assets are transferred or sold before the case is disposed of, it would cause losses to the state, they added.
