Court orders seizure of assets owned by Motijheel Ideal engineer Atikur, wife
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the orders following two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
A court has ordered the seizure of 876 decimals of land, five plots, two flats and a house in Dhaka and Gazipur owned by Md Atikur Rahman Khan, deputy assistant engineer of Motijheel Ideal School and College and managing director of Vision 71 Development Limited, and his wife, over allegations of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.
The order was issued today (5 December) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following two separate applications filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the court order, Atikur and his wife allegedly accumulated assets inconsistent with their known sources of income. The ACC sought the seizure of the properties during an ongoing investigation into corruption allegations against the engineer, confirmed Court Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain.
The ACC's Deputy Director Manosi Biswas filed the two applications seeking the seizure of the assets.
According to the petitions, Atikur Rahman Khan concealed assets worth Tk1.74 crore in the wealth statement he submitted to the ACC. The commission alleged that he acquired assets worth Tk2.35 crore that are inconsistent with his known sources of income by providing false and misleading information.
The ACC also found that Tk7.26 crore had been transacted through 47 bank accounts allegedly obtained through bribery and corruption. A case has been filed against him under the ACC Act and the investigation is currently ongoing.
During the investigation, the ACC received information from reliable sources that the accused was attempting to transfer properties owned by him or linked to his interests. The commission argued that if the assets were transferred, it could obstruct the filing of a charge sheet and undermine the possibility of confiscating the illegally acquired assets in favour of the state after trial.
Therefore, the ACC requested the court to seize the properties to prevent their transfer during the investigation.
