Court defers witness testimony in blogger Niloy murder case to 12 Oct
Five of 15 witnesses have testified so far
A Dhaka court today (17 August) deferred the recording of witness testimony in the murder case of blogger Niladri Chattopadhyay Niloy and set 12 October for the next hearing.
Dhaka's First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Alamgir Hossain passed the order, confirmed State counsel Belal Hossain.
"The case was scheduled for witness testimony today. However, despite court order, the witnesses did not appear. The accused who are in custody were produced before the court and were later sent back to jail," he said.
According to the case documents, the case has 15 witnesses, of whom five have so far given testimony. Niloy's wife and case complainant, Ashamoni, is among the witnesses.
Court records show that Ashamoni testified in August 2022.
According to the case documents, miscreants hacked Niloy to death at his home in the capital's Goran area on 7 August 2015.
Later, Ashamoni filed a murder case with Khilgaon police station against four unidentified assailants.
On 4 October 2020, the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted a charge sheet naming 13 people as accused.
The accused are dismissed army Major Md Ziaul Haque Zia, Md Masum Rana, Saad Al Nahian, Md Kawsar Hossain Khan, Md Kamal Hossain Sardar, Maolana Mufti Abdul Gaffar, Md Mortuza Faisal Sabbir, Md Tarekul Alam alias Tarek, Khairul Islam alias Jamil, Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib, Mozammel Hossain Saimon, Md Arafat Rahman and Md Sheikh Abdullah alias Jubayer.
