Court bans foreign travel of four, including ex-MP Noor Mohammad, BIWTC chair
The order was issued today (5 January) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), court sources said.
A Dhaka court has imposed a ban on foreign travel for four individuals, including Awami League politician and former Jamalpur-1 MP Noor Mohammad and Md Salim Ullah, chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), in connection with ongoing inquiries into alleged irregularities and corruption.
The order was issued today (5 January) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), court sources said.
The ban also applies to Noor Mohammad's wife, Rowshan Ara Begum, and his nephew, Md Saiful Islam, Court Bench Assistant Md Reaz Hossain confirmed.
According to the ACC petitions, an inquiry is underway into allegations that Noor Mohammad and the other two individuals acquired assets beyond their known sources of income, including through their dependents.
The ACC said there is a possibility they may leave the country while the inquiry is ongoing, which could hamper the investigation.
In a separate petition, the ACC stated that Md Salim Ullah is being investigated on allegations of amassing illegal wealth through various irregularities and corrupt practices.
The petition said there is information suggesting he may attempt to flee abroad if given the opportunity.
The ACC sought the travel bans to ensure a fair and proper inquiry into the allegations, the court was told.
