Content creator RS Fahim sent to jail in Gulshan murder case, bail hearing tomorrow
Acting on the petition, the judge ordered that the accused be sent to jail and fixed Tuesday for the bail hearing.
A court has ordered the detention of content creator RS Fahim Chowdhury in a murder case filed with Gulshan Police Station in connection with the July uprising in the capital.
The court also fixed tomorrow (31 March) for the hearing on his bail petition.
The order was passed this (30 March) afternoon by the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jeshita Islam following a hearing.
As the investigating officer of the case was on leave, the officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station submitted an application seeking to keep him in custody.
Acting on the petition, the judge ordered that the accused be sent to jail and fixed Tuesday for the bail hearing.
Public prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed that although the defence lawyers filed a bail petition today, they sought Tuesday for the hearing, and in line with the submission, the court sent the accused to jail and fixed tomorrow for the bail hearing.
Fahim was detained yesterday afternoon (29 March) from the Mirpur Zoo area by locals and a group of students, who later handed him over to Shah Ali Police Station police. He was subsequently transferred to Gulshan Police Station.
According to the case statement, on 19 July, during the anti-discrimination movement, thousands of students and civilians were staging a procession in front of Subastu Market in Shahjadpur, Gulshan. It alleges that, under instructions from top leaders of the then government and ruling party, activists of the Awami League and its affiliated bodies, along with members of law enforcement agencies, opened indiscriminate fire on the protesters.
During the incident, victim Md Imran, 30, who was returning home from work, joined the protesters and chanted slogans in solidarity. He was seriously injured by gunfire from unidentified assailants. He was later taken to United Hospital, where he died at 7:05pm the same day while undergoing treatment.
The case was filed with Gulshan Police Station in April 2025.
