'Conspiracy to overthrow interim govt': US citizen Enayet's another associate placed on 4-day remand
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhajur Rahman passed the order today (11 October) after a hearing, Public Prosecutor Md Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the matter.

A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand for Md Azhar Ali Sarkar, an associate of Bangladesh-origin US citizen Enayet Karim Chowdhury, in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act on charges of conspiring to overthrow the interim government as a foreign agent.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhajur Rahman passed the order today (11 October) after a hearing, Public Prosecutor Md Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the matter.
Earlier, Inspector Md Akhtar Morshed of the Detective Branch (DB), the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court seeking a seven-day remand, citing the need for interrogation to uncover more information about the alleged plot.
During the hearing, Azhar told the court that he was a senior journalist and had met the current president twice, claiming he was falsely implicated and had no involvement in the alleged conspiracy.
According to the remand petition, Azhar Ali, 57, and others, in collusion with Enayet Karim Chowdhury, allegedly held secret meetings with political leaders, influential individuals, and business figures to create public unrest and damage state property through protests — with the intent to destabilise and overthrow the current government.
The petition stated that sufficient evidence was found suggesting their involvement in spreading fear and conspiring to endanger Bangladesh's integrity, unity, and sovereignty.
Earlier on 13 September, Enayet Karim Chowdhury was sent to jail under the Special Powers Act. Two days later, on 15 September, the court granted a two-day remand under the Anti-Terrorism Act. He remains in custody.
According to the case statement, Enayet was detained on 13 September around 10:30am for allegedly moving suspiciously in a car on Minto Road in the capital.
Police said they recovered two iPhones containing "important conspiracy-related information" against the current government.
During the interrogation, Enayet identified himself as an agent of a foreign intelligence agency and admitted to arriving in Bangladesh on 6 September from New York to carry out a secret mission to overthrow the interim government.
