BNP leader Annie, 8 other acquitted in explosive case

A court today (16 June) acquitted nine leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its front organisations including Joint Secretary General of the party Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie in a case lodged over Explosive Substances Act.
Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque of Dhaka Special Tribunal-14 acquitted the BNP leaders and activists as the charges framed against them were not proved.
The other eight people, who were acquitted by the court, are - Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel, Habibur Rashid Habib, Ishak Sarkar, Qazi Abul Bashar, Nazrul Islam Khan Tipu, MA Syed Montu, A Sattar and Md Salauddin.
Confirming the news to BSS, Annie's counsel Mohiuddin Chowdhury said the case was in testimony stage and the court disposed of it though the judgment as there was no substantial material to proceed further.
Police filed the case on 11 November 2013, over petrol bomb attack on a leguna in the city's Sutrapur area where five passengers received burn injuries.
Ten people including Sadek Hossain Khoka were implicated in the case. After his death, his name was dropped from the case. Police filed the charge-sheet on 21 May 2019.
