All accused in the Rajshahi University Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Faruk murder case, including convicted war criminal late Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, have been acquitted.
Judge Zulfikar Ullah of Rajshahi Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-1 gave the order today (12 October).
Among 114 accused who have received acquittal, nine are deceased, and 105 were tried in the case over the murder of Faruk Hossain, a final year student of the Mathematics Department and a Bangladesh Chhatra League hall unit activist, on 8 February 2010.
He was hacked to death. His body was later dumped in a manhole on the campus.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, lawyer for the accused Abu Mohammad Selim said, "Justice has been ensured."
He alleged that due to political reasons, the actual perpetrators were not brought to book and innocent people were charged.
Ali Ashraf Masum, public prosecutor of the Metropolitan Sessions Court, said all accused were acquitted as they could not be proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
About 40 witnesses testified in the case. At the time of the verdict, 25 accused were present in court.
