BNP leader Dulu acquitted in tax evasion case
BNP central leader and former state minister for land Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu has been acquitted in a tax evasion and corruption case filed in 2008.
The verdict was delivered today (11 January) by Judge Rabiul Alam of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-4, which acquitted Dulu after failing to find the allegations proven.
Dulu's lawyer, Md Borhan Uddin, confirmed the matter, describing the case as harassment-driven. He said only four witnesses from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) testified in the case, and their statements failed to substantiate the charges.
According to the case documents, the assistant tax commissioner Hafiz Al Asad filed the case on 3 August 2008, accusing Dulu of evading Tk10 lakh in income tax against declared earnings of Tk2.34 crore since 1983, and of providing false information regarding his actual income and expenditure.
Earlier, on 22 June last year, Dulu and his wife Sabina Yasmin were also acquitted in another tax evasion and corruption case by Dhaka's Special Judge Court-1.
