A Patuakhali court has sentenced 23 individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of the father of an Awami League activist in Bauphal.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Enamul Karim passed the order today (8 April).

Confirming the matter, Public Prosecutor Mohammad Farid Hossain said, "Justice has been served after a long legal process. This ruling demonstrates that no criminal can escape the law. The state has succeeded in ensuring justice."

According to the case statement, on 20 March 2016, during the Kalishuri Union Parishad election, a group of assailants attacked the home of Saidur Rahman Sohel Mallik, a polling agent for the AL-supported chairman candidate.

During the attack, the victim's father, Abdul Wahab Mallik, was severely beaten and injured. He succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Saidur Rahman Sohel Mallik, the victim's son, filed a murder case with Bauphal police. Following an investigation, the police submitted a charge sheet in 2018. After a seven-year-long trial, the court delivered its verdict today.
