Court sets 15 February for submission of further probe report in Osman Hadi murder
This marks the sixth extension granted to the investigating officer to submit the further probe report in the case.
A Dhaka court has again deferred the submission of the further probe report in the murder case of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, setting 15 February as the new deadline.
Today (9 February) had earlier been fixed for submitting the report, but the investigating agency, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), failed to place it before the court. As a result, the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam rescheduled the date.
This marks the sixth extension granted to the investigating officer to submit the further probe report in the case, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police prosecution department Sub-Inspector Md Rukunuzzaman.
According to the case statement, Sharif Osman Hadi formed the political-cultural platform Inqilab Mancha in the post-uprising period and served as its spokesperson. On 12 December around 2:20pm, assailants riding a motorcycle shot Hadi in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station and fled the scene. He sustained critical gunshot wounds to his head and below his right ear.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, Osman Hadi was flown to Singapore by an air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment, where he died on 18 December while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed an attempted murder case with Paltan Police Station on 14 December, which was later converted into a murder case after Hadi's death.
On 6 January, Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the DB submitted the charge-sheet against 17 accused, including alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents -- Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum.
Subsequently, on 15 January, the complainant and Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a naraji (no-confidence) petition, after which the court directed the CID to conduct further investigation.
