Court imposes travel ban and blocks NID of former secretary Mihir Kanti Majumder, 12 others in corruption case
The ACC previously found evidence that they collected funds from poverty-stricken individuals and later misappropriated the money under the guise of various projects

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban and blocked the National Identity (NID) cards of 13 individuals, including former secretary and Chairman of the NGO "Uddipan," Mihir Kanti Majumder, for their alleged involvement in corruption and violations of microfinance regulations.
Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court issued these orders today (29 July) based on two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the separate petitions, tThe ACC has reportedly found evidence that they collected funds from poverty-stricken individuals and later misappropriated the money under the guise of various projects, violating the rules of the Microfinance Regulatory Authority (MRA) and engaging in fraudulent activities. The charges against them fall under Section 5(2) of the Anti-Corruption Act.
ACC Assistant Director Muha Shoaib Ibn Alam filed the petitions requesting the court to block the suspects' overseas travel and freeze their NID cards.
The other individuals named in the travel ban are former Vice-Chairman of Uddipan Zakia K Hasan, former treasurer Dr Mohammad Golam Ahad, former members Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Mohammad Nazrul Islam Khan, Nahid Sultan, Bhabatosh Nath, Dr Abu Jamil Faisal, Shawkat Hossain, Reza Selim, Mohammad Tayebul Haque, Rehana Begum, Acting Executive Director and CEO and Member Secretary Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, and Executive Director Bidyut Kumar Basu.
Two ongoing cases regarding the alleged fraud are currently under investigation by the ACC.
Notably, on 28 April 2025, the ACC filed six separate cases against Mihir Kanti and 15 others in connection with the financial irregularities at Uddipan.
Mihir Kanti Majumder served as the Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives from 2011 to 2013. He retired on 13 May 2013. Subsequently, he was appointed the first chairman of the Rural Savings Bank (Palli Sanchay Bank) on 12 September 2014.
