'Clear signs of corruption': Muhit orders quick opening of Savar Health Management Institute

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit expressed frustration over the Health Management Institute's building in Savar remaining unused for four years and directed authorities to take immediate steps to make the facility operational.

He made the remarks while briefing reporters after visiting the institute and the Savar Upazila Health Complex this noon (15 August)

The state minister said the government is planning to build modern 150-bed hospitals in 500 upazilas, but the infrastructure alone, without proper management and good governance, would not ensure quality healthcare.

"Doctors involved in health administration from both the grassroots to the district levels will gradually receive modern training in health management," he said.

During the visit, Muhit expressed dissatisfaction over the Savar health institute's unused buildings.

"Such attractive buildings were constructed with the people's money back in 2022. Even after four years, they are still not being used. I have seen clear signs of corruption, mismanagement, and negligence here. I have inspected the matter on the ground, and we will take necessary action very soon," he assured.

The parliamentarian said the institute would not only serve local residents but also play a role in improving the quality of the country's public healthcare system.

Civil surgeons from all 64 districts, divisional health officials and doctors responsible for managing upazila health complexes would receive training at the institute, he added.

The state minister said ensuring good governance in the health sector was a key priority for the government.

"We are working with the goal of improving healthcare services at the grassroots and building a 'healthy Bangladesh,'" he said.
