UCB loan default: Genex Infosys Chairman Adnan Imam ordered to repay Tk305cr

A Dhaka court has ordered Mohammad Adnan Imam, chairman of Genex Infosys Ltd and former executive committee chairman of the NRBC Bank, to repay Tk305 crore within two months in a loan default case filed by the United Commercial Bank (UCB).
Judge Mujahidur Rahman of Dhaka's Money Loan Court No-5 passed the order on Monday (8 September), court bench assistant Md Imrul confirmed.
According to court records, summons were issued against the defendants both by post and through newspaper notices. As no written replies were submitted, the case proceeded uncontested and was disposed of after an ex-parte hearing.
The court observed that UCB had filed the case on 25 February 2024 to recover Tk305.65 crore.
After examining the petition, supporting documents and affidavits, the judge ruled that the bank's claim was legally substantiated.
The defendants were directed to repay the sum with 12% interest within 60 days of the judgment.
The case named several defendants, including Adnan Imam in his capacity as chairman of Genex Infosys Ltd and former NRBC Bank executive committee chairman, as well as directors Chowdhury Fazle Imam and Nilofar Imam, chief executive officer and acting managing director Shah Jalal Uddin, vice-chairman and director Prince Mojumder, and Hasan Shahid Sarwar, nominated director from Oracle Services Ltd.
