Satkhira UP chairman suspended over corruption scam
On 4 February, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Md Abu Jafar Ripon, singed the suspension letter.

Azizur Rahman Raju, the chairman of Khalilnagar Union Parishad in Tala upazila of Satkhira, has been suspended for allegedly withdrawing money from a project and forging the president's signature.
On 4 February, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Md Abu Jafar Ripon, singed the suspension letter.
According to the letter, the UP chairman Azizur Rahman Raju has withdrawn a bill of Tk 69,668 without completing the project. The signature of the project president has been forged. As the matter has been proved in the primary investigation, he enforcing the power of the Union Parishad is not appropriate from the administrative point of view. That is why he was suspended from the post of chairman.
Copies of the letter have been sent to the concerned departments including the Deputy Commissioner and Tala Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
The UNO said, "We have learned that the LGRD has suspended Khalilnagar UP chairman Azizur Rahman Raju. We have not yet received the official letter. However, after learning about the incident, Chairman Raju has been relived from his duties."
