The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed separate cases against former Awami League MP Enamul Haque and his wife Tahura Haque over allegations of acquiring illegal assets worth nearly Tk26 crore and suspicious transactions of Tk2,240 crore in their bank accounts.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter while briefing reporters at the anti-graft watchdog's headquarters in Dhaka today (28 April).

He said Enamul, who was the Rajshahi-4 lawmaker, was sued for allegedly acquiring illegal assets worth Tk18.08 crore. Additionally, there were suspicious transactions amounting to Tk2,239.15 crore across his 22 bank accounts.

A separate case was filed against his wife Tahura for allegedly acquiring illegal assets worth Tk7.95 crore. Furthermore, there were suspicious transactions totalling Tk1.72 crore in her two bank accounts, said Akhtar.

Enamul was arrested on 16 September last year on charges of inciting violence at the protest rallies led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 5 August.

He was elected to the parliament from Rajshahi-4 for three consecutive terms (2008, 2014 and 2018) as an Awami League candidate.
