ACC to sue Mahi B Chowdhury over Tk20cr illegal wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file a case against Mahi Badruddoza Chowdhury, joint secretary general of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, on charges of amassing wealth worth over Tk20.5 crore illegally.
ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam confirmed the matter to the media today (15 October).
According to ACC findings, Mahi B Chowdhury allegedly concealed assets worth Tk9.68 crore in his wealth statement and provided false and misleading information.
In addition, he is accused of acquiring and possessing wealth worth Tk20.69 crore beyond his known sources of income.
ACC investigation also revealed that Mahi allegedly laundered money by entering into a land purchase agreement for 68 acres valued at Tk9.68 crore. The funds were later transferred to his company, Avalon Estate Limited, through purchase and ownership transfer — constituting an offence under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
