Corruption at Chittagong University: 2 officials suspended, 1 demoted

The Chittagong University (CU) administration has suspended two officials and demoted another over allegations of financial irregularities, bribery, abuse of influence, and amassing disproportionate wealth.

"Based on preliminary investigations, two officials have been temporarily suspended for proven irregularities and corruption. Another official, who secured a promotion without the required qualifications, has been demoted to the position of section officer," he added.
According to meeting sources, among the suspended are Sahabuddin, personal secretary to former CU vice-chancellor Prof Shireen Akhter and assistant registrar of the English department, and Mohammad Moshibur Rahman, assistant registrar of the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Al Asad has been demoted to section officer for obtaining a promotion through abuse of authority despite not meeting the eligibility criteria.
He was previously serving as a council member in the registrar's office.
