Corrupt postal officials embezzled Tk55 crore, actions initiated: Palak
Corrupt postal officials have embezzled Tk55 crore from the people and the department itself, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, said today (26 June).
"People involved in the embezzlement will face the music as a letter has already been sent to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for actions against the accused," he said during a media brief following attending a workshop at a city hotel.
At the event, organised by a2i of the Information and Communication Technology Division and the International Telecommunication Union, Palak said, "We have found evidence of 11 such irregularities, and the sum embezzled by postal officials is Tk55 crore."

The financial fraud at post offices drew the state minister's attention following media reports about her suicide attempt due to the non-recovery of Tk2 lakh deposited in the post office as a family savings certificate.
According to sources, Tanore's postmaster, Moksed Alam, embezzled Tk1.84 crore from 51 people, including Parul Begum.
Speaking at the workshop, Palak said, "Within the next 17 years, Bangladesh will realise its vision of a knowledge and technology-based 'Smart Bangladesh.' Our economy will reach a trillion dollars, with a per capita income of $12,500. We will have at least 50 unicorns and a $50 billion ICT industry."
