Cop injured after tension erupts between Chhatra Dal, Shibir at CU

Tension gripped Chittagong University (CU) on Wednesday night (15 October) as clashes broke out between activists of the BNP's student wing Chhatra Dal and Jamaat-e-Islami's student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir amid the announcement and counting of results for the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (Cucsu), hall, and senate elections.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Md Tareq Aziz of the Hathazari Circle was injured during the unrest near Gate-1 of the university.
He confirmed the matter to The Business Standard, saying he had been transferred to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital, where he received several stitches.

The incident unfolded when tension escalated following the announcement of results at Suhrawardy Hall.
The Shibir-backed vice president (VP) candidate defeated the Chhatra Dal candidate by only three votes, sparking outrage among Chhatra Dal activists.
They rejected the result and reportedly confined the university's pro-vice chancellor.
As both groups took up positions near Gate-1, they were pelting stones during a standoff. Police rushed to the scene, and Addl SP Tarek Aziz was struck on the head while attempting to bring the situation under control.
The confrontation later spread to the Engineering Faculty area, which served as the polling centre for Suhrawardy Hall.
Witnesses said an altercation broke out when Chhatra Dal members tried to forcibly enter the polling centre, leading to further unrest. Both groups remained positioned near the faculty until late night.
BGB personnel, police and members of the university's proctorial body were deployed throughout the night to prevent further violence.
"We are on alert to ensure security. Around 30 police personnel have been deployed," said Manjur Quader Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Model Police Station.
Students near the vote-counting centre said many were hesitant to approach the area to check results due to the tense atmosphere on campus.
