Commuters suffer as rain causes intense traffic congestion on city roads
According to Google Maps, all the important roads were marked red as vehicles were moving very slowly due to the gridlock for hours
Commuters who have come out of their houses to go to their workplaces or anywhere else today (29 May) are suffering immensely as intense traffic congestion took hold of almost all major roads in the capital due to incessant raining since the morning.
"Vehicular movement has slowed down due to the early morning rain, resulting in traffic congestion on various major roads in the capital, including in Mohakhali, Moghbazar, Karwan Bazar, Dhanmondi, Panthapath and Farmgate areas. The traffic jam has affected both incoming and outgoing vehicles," said Tania Sultana, assistant deputy commissioner of Traffic Police (Tejgaon Zone).
According to Google Maps, all the important roads were marked red as vehicles were moving very slowly due to the gridlock for hours.

The roads showing the most traffic congestion include Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Mirpur Road, Moghbazar-Mohakhali-Radission Blu Water Garden Road and Pragati Shoroni.
Describing the traffic situation, Asif Mahmud, a journalist who head out for his office at Eskaton Garden area this morning, said, "I got onto the expressway around 9:30am heading towards the Hatirjheel exit. By the time I got to it, the traffic had already reached even before the off ramp. It took nearly half an hour for me to just exit the ramp."
"The U-turn on Panthapath was blocked so all cars were forced to take the Moghbazar road. It took me another 30 minutes to finally reach New Eskaton Road after that," Asif said.
Today's gridlock follows several days of insurmountable traffic issues as the city streets were blocked by protesters with various demands for the past several days.
