Committee formed to review irregularities in social safety net beneficiary selection: State minister
Responding to concerns about past failures in delivering allowances to the right beneficiaries, the state minister said a committee has been tasked with reviewing existing beneficiary lists.
State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin has said a committee has been formed to investigate past irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries for social safety net programmes, with efforts underway to ensure support reaches eligible recipients.
She made the remarks today (6 May) while speaking to reporters after a session of the DC Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
The session involved the ministries of social welfare, women and children affairs, and youth and sports.
Responding to concerns about past failures in delivering allowances to the right beneficiaries, the state minister said a committee has been tasked with reviewing existing beneficiary lists.
"We are selecting beneficiaries through the G2P (Government-to-Person) method using Proxy-Means Testing," she said, adding that the aim is to ensure assistance reaches "those who have the need and those who are qualified," regardless of affiliations.
She stressed the importance of coordination between field-level administration and the ministries.
"If the coordination between this end and the other end of the tunnel is done properly, then this will certainly be effective," she said.
Farzana also said deputy commissioners and divisional commissioners play a key role in connecting the ministry with grassroots beneficiaries.
She added that officials have been asked to report any irregularities.
"If they do not bring any kind of corruption to our attention, then we will not be able to be cautious about it," she said.
