Coast Guard rescues 11 fishermen after pirate attack in sonadia channel
Coast Guard Media Officer, Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Hoque, stated on Sunday evening, 7 December 2025, that the Bangladesh Coast Guard had rescued 11 fishermen after their fishing boat was attacked by pirates in the Sonadia Channel under Maheshkhali Police Station.
He stated that the incident occurred on Friday, 5 December, when a fishing boat named FB Mayer Doa-3 came under attack. The pirates looted fish, food, the engine, battery, and other essential equipment, and held the fishermen hostage. Another fishing boat, FB Tasmeem, contacted the Coast Guard emergency number 16111 at 8am on 6 December to seek assistance.
Based on the information, a rescue team from Coast Guard Station Maheshkhali rushed to the location and rescued all 11 fishermen. Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the pirate gang fled and no arrests were made.
The rescued fishermen received initial treatment and were later handed over to the owners along with the fishing boat.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Hoque stated that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such rescue operations in the future.
