CNG drivers block Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gazipur protesting 'police harassment'
Police and locals said the protest began with a small group of CNG drivers who stood by the roadside with placards

CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gazipur's Nawjor area today (28 September), protesting what they alleged was systematic police harassment and demanding an end to it.
Traffic on the busy highway remained suspended for nearly two hours, from around 11:45am to 1:45pm, leaving many passengers stranded in long tailbacks.
Shahin Khan, officer-in-charge of Basan Police Station, said, "traffic was disrupted for a short period but returned to normal after armed forces dispersed the demonstrators."

Police and locals said the protest began with a small group of CNG drivers who stood by the roadside with placards.
As more drivers joined in, they moved onto the highway, halting vehicles.
Police tried to persuade the demonstrators to withdraw, but they refused and continued their blockade with processions. The situation was eventually brought under control after army personnel intervened and cleared the road.
