Bus services from 3 northern districts to Dhaka remain suspended for third consecutive day
Transport owners halted operations from Thursday (25 September) night without prior notice, citing demands to increase workers’ salaries
Bus services from Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi and Natore to Dhaka have been suspended for the third consecutive day.
Transport owners halted operations from Thursday (25 September) night without prior notice, citing demands to increase workers' salaries.
Nazrul Islam Helal, Secretary General of the Northern District Road Transport Group said, "Although salaries were increased following workers' demands, employees are seeking additional benefits. Failing to reach an agreement, owners decided to stop bus services. Efforts are underway to resume operations as soon as possible."
Workers said that a salary increase had been agreed upon in a meeting on 23 September and was supposed to take effect from Friday (26 September). They criticised owners for stopping buses without implementing the new salaries or giving prior notice.
Passengers face severe difficulties due to the suspension, especially ahead of the Durga Puja holiday when buses and trains are crowded.
However, Ekota Transport continues to operate on the Rajshahi-Dhaka route as usual.
