Closed filling station fined Tk1 lakh for hoarding over 8,000 litres of fuel in Ctg
The operation, led by Executive Magistrate SM Amirul Mostafa, recovered 7,734 litres of diesel and 374 litres of octane from the station
A mobile court has found more than 8,000 litres of fuel stockpiled inside a closed filling station in Chattogram and fined the filling station Tk1 lakh for creating an artificial shortage.
According to the district administration, the drive was conducted today (30 March) at Anwar Zakaria Filling Station in the city's port area. Although the station remained closed, citing a lack of fuel, a large quantity of fuel was found stored inside.
The operation, led by Executive Magistrate SM Amirul Mostafa, recovered 7,734 litres of diesel and 374 litres of octane from the station. The establishment was fined under the Consumer Rights Protection Act for creating an artificial crisis.
Confirming the matter, the magistrate said that despite normal supply in the market, some unscrupulous traders are hoarding fuel to maximise profits and create artificial shortages.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah told The Business Standard that there is no shortage of fuel supply, warning that strict action will be taken against those attempting to create public suffering through market manipulation.
He added that such drives will continue.
