CID seizes deluxe hotel of Rangdhanu Group at Banani, freezes Tk33.81cr
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today (1 September) seized a luxurious hotel in the capital's Banani area and froze Tk33.81 crore of Rangdhanu Group following a court order.
The Financial Crime Unit (FCU) of the CID seized Hotel Unique Regency built on 6.2 decimal of land at Banani and froze Tk33.81 crore in Bangladesh Samabaya Bank Limited, said a press release of the CID.
The CID has found the properties during an investigation into a money laundering case filed against Rangdhanu Group owner Rafiqul Islam and his accomplices.
Rafiqul Islam allegedly took loan of Tk400 crore from Baridhara branch of Islami Bank, Tk270 crore from Bashundhara branch of First Security Islami Bank and Tk200 crore from Gulshan branch of Union Bank in the name of Rangdhanu Builders and money from some other banks through forgery and fraudulence and received foreign citizenship and invested the money abroad.
