Child domestic worker's body recovered from BGB official's residence in Pilkhana
The body was found hanging inside a bathroom, police said.
Police recovered the body of an 11-year-old domestic worker from the residence of a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official at the BGB headquarters in Pilkhana this afternoon (22 February).
The deceased, identified as Bibi Halima, was found hanging inside a bathroom of the officers' quarters at the headquarters around 2pm.
Confirming the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (New Market zone) Md Jahangir Kabir said police broke open the bathroom door after being informed and recovered the body.
"An unnatural death case is being processed. At this stage, it appears to be a case of suicide," he said, adding that the body has been sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
The assistant commissioner further said Halima, daughter of late Shah Alam of Ramgati in Lakshmipur, had been working at the residence of BGB Media Directorate Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam for the past five to six months, reportedly to help care for the official's infant child.
Shariful said both he and his wife had left for their respective workplaces in the morning.
Around midday, his aide went to the flat to drop off groceries and found the infant alone on the floor and, receiving no response from Halima, discovered the bathroom door locked from inside, the BGB official said.
The family then alerted police, who arrived and recovered the body after forcing entry, he added.
