Police on Thursday submitted charge sheet against eight accused on Thursday in a case filed over MC College’s gang-rape incident

Charge sheet filed over MC College gang-rape

Police on Thursday submitted charge sheet against eight accused on Thursday in a case filed over MC College's gang-rape incident.

Inspector Indranil Bhattacharya of Shah Poran Police Station, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case submitted the charge sheet to the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abul Kashem. 

The accused people are- Saifur Rahman, Tarekul Islam Tarek, Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Arjun Loshkor, Rabiul, Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, Rajon Ahmed and Ainuddin, said Amullo Kumar Chowdhury, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

According to charge sheet, six accused had direct involvement and rest two accused Rabiul and Masum were associate of them.

After two months of incident, DNA report on Sunday found evidence of the involvement of four people in the rape of a woman at Sylhet's MC College.

DNA report confirms 4 people’s involvement in MC College gang-rape

The four people found to be involved are- Saifur, Tarek, Shah Mahbubur Rahman alias Rony and Arjun Laskar.

On 25 September, a couple from South Surma in Sylhet went to visit MC College in the evening. Five to six leaders and activists of Chhatra League grabbed them, brought them to the dormitory, and beat them up both. Later, they tied up her husband and raped the woman in front of him.

The next day, the victim's husband filed a case against nine people at the city's Shahparan police station, naming six people.

All of the accused were arrested and they gave their confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after they were taken to remand.

The rape incident sparked anti-rape movement across the country.

The government also amended the anti-rape law with the provision of death penalty amid protest.
