Case filed against more than 2,000 unidentified persons over stone looting in Sylhet

A case has been filed against 1,000 to 1,500 unidentified individuals over the looting of stones from the Sada Pathor quarry in Sylhet's Companiganj upazila.
The case was filed last afternoon (15 August) by Mohammad Anwarul Habib, director general of the Bureau of Mineral Development, at Companiganj police station, confirmed Officer-in-Charge Uzair Al Mahmud Adnan.
According to the case statement, several miscreants illegally extracted stones worth crores of taka from a gazetted quarry in Sada Pathor between 5 August last year and subsequent dates, as reported by various national media outlets. The identities of those involved have yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, in the past two days, authorities have recovered around 100,000 cubic feet of looted stones from the district.
