Businessman shot dead in broad daylight in Chattogram
Two others sustained bullet injuries in the incident

A businessman was shot dead in a moving car in Madunaghat of Chattogram this afternoon (7 October).
Two others sustained bullet injuries in the incident.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Hakim Chowdhury, of Panchkhain village in Bagoan union under Raozan.
The incident occurred near Madunaghat Bridge over the Halda River around 4:30pm, said Hathazari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Manjur Quader Bhuiyan.
"One person has died of gunshot wounds. Two others are injured and undergoing treatment. Additional police have been deployed to the scene. We are yet to identify the attackers," OC Manjur told The Business Standard.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of unknown individuals suddenly opened fire on a white private car carrying several BNP activists. Abdul Hakim died on the spot, while locals rushed the two injured to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Local sources said the victims were followers of suspended BNP leader Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury from Raozan.
They suspect the attack may have been carried out by supporters of BNP chairperson's adviser Golam Akbar Khandaker, though police have not confirmed any arrests or identified the culprits.
Abdul Hakim, a resident of Panchkhain village in Bagowan union of Raozan, became active in BNP politics following the fall of the Awami League government in 2024. Though he held no official party post, he was known to be a close aide of Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, a former BNP vice chairman.
Following the killing, Gias Quader posted on his verified Facebook page, "I strongly condemn and protest the shooting of my dear fellow BNP leader Abdul Hakim Chowdhury in Madunaghat, Raozan. We demand the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the murderers."
In July, at least 20 people were injured in a violent clash between supporters of Gias Quader and Golam Akbar in Raozan's Sattarhat area on the Chattogram-Rangamati road. Golam Akbar was injured in that incident.
The BNP later dissolved its Chattogram North District Committee and suspended Gias Quader from his position as central vice chairman in response to the intra-party conflict.
