Budget FY27: Bicycle prices may increase
The proposed budget may increase import duty on bicycle freewheels from 15% to 25%
Bicycle prices may rise under the proposed FY2026–27 budget due to a planned increase in import duties on freewheels, a key bicycle component.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is set to place the proposed Tk9.38 lakh crore budget in parliament today (11 June).
According to finance ministry sources, the government may raise the existing import duty on freewheels used in locally assembled bicycles from 15% to 25%, alongside the imposition of a regulatory duty.
Industry insiders say the move could increase production costs and lead to higher bicycle prices in the domestic market.
