BTRC cancels 124 VSP licences

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has cancelled licences of 124 Voice over Internet Protocol Service Providers (VSPs) as they failed to renew their expired licences.

The regulatory commission has directed the companies to stop all types of VoIP related services from now onwards, says a press release issued by the BTRC.

A letter in this regard, issued on August 5, was sent to the authorities concerned, asking them to clear the dues within a month.

Of the 124 VSPs, 106 failed to pay renewal fees to the government in time. Another 18 VSPs could not be renewed as they failed to submit applications properly.

A press release signed by MA Taleb Hossain, BTRC director (Licensing), reads if the service providers/companies fail to clear their dues in the given time, necessary actions will be taken including filing cases as per Bangladesh Telecommunication Act 2001 and Public Demand Recovery Act, 1913.
