Banks to remain open for transactions till 6pm today
Bank transactions will continue for an additional 2 hours today for revenue collection purposes

Banking activities will continue in all bank branches until 6pm today (30 June) in order to collect revenue, said the spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank.
Usually, bank transactions are from 10am to 4pm. However, the office hours of the banks have been extended till 6pm to collect revenue.
Typically, bank transaction hours are from 10am to 4pm, while bank office hours are from 10am to 6pm.
The remaining time is used for post-transaction ancillary banking activities.
However, for revenue collection purposes, bank transactions will continue for an additional 2 hours today.
Meanwhile, tomorrow (1 July) will be a bank holiday, and all types of customer transactions at banks across the country will remain closed. Stock market trading will also be suspended on this day.
However, the head offices of Bangladesh Bank and various other banks, along with some important branches, will remain open on a limited scale.
Sources from the Bangladesh Bank said 1 July is considered the time for finalising half-yearly accounts each year.
During this time, banks reconcile their six-month financial accounts and prepare half-yearly reports. 1 July is declared a bank holiday to ensure this process runs smoothly.
On this day, no customer services will be available at any bank branch, including cash deposits or withdrawals, check clearances, demand drafts, pay orders, ATM transactions, and inter-bank transactions through mobile banking.
Only head offices and some branches will remain open on a limited basis for administrative and accounting activities.
Due to banks being closed, the stock market will also remain closed. This is because almost all stock market transactions are conducted through banking channels. So, when banks are closed, the stock market cannot operate either.
On 31 December every year, banks observe a similar bank holiday to complete their annual accounts.
