The convention centre of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), which was previously named Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Centre, has been renamed as "Shaheed Abu Sayed International Convention Centre."

This decision was approved in the 94th meeting of the university's syndicate held on 12 December 2024, according to an office order signed by BSMMU Registrar Professor Md Nazrul Islam yesterday (7 January).

The office order states that, the decision to rename the University Medical Convention Centre as Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Center as per a discussion resolution-10 of the 82nd meeting of the syndicate held on 24 June 2021 and the decision to rename the University Doctors' Hall as Sheikh Russell International Doctors' Hall as per the discussion resolution-14 of the 89th meeting of the syndicate held on 17 December 2022 have been cancelled.

It further states that the matter of renaming the centre as "Shaheed Abu Sayed International Convention Center", a martyr of the July-August uprising, has been approved.
