Police have arrested Md Ibrahim Ansari Apurbo, president of banned Chhatra League's BRAC University unit, from Basundhara Residential Area of the capital last night.

A team of Badda police arrested Apurbo for his alleged involvement in the killing of Tawfiqul Islam Bhuiyan, 43, who was shot dead on Pragati Sarani at the west side of the BRAC University during the student movement on 19 July last year.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told BSS that on the basis of a secret information Badda police arrested Apurbo.

By collecting intelligence information and using technology, police became sure about the involvement of Apurbo in the killing of Tawfiq, the deputy commissioner added.

Ismot Jahan Elora, wife of Tawfiq, on 28 July filed a case with Badda Police Station in connection with the murder.
