Vehicular movement was normal in the capital today despite the BNP-enforced dawn to dusk hartal, they called rejecting Saturday's polls to Dhaka's two city corporations.

However, Bangladesh Nationalist Party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi claimed that people are "spontaneously observing" the hartal in protest against "anomalies in the polls".

"People have given their support to our hartal and they also rejected elections to two Dhaka city corporations," he said.
BNP leaders and activists staged demonstration inside the party's central office at Nayapaltan in the capital.
After the voting ended on Saturday, BNP rejected the Dhaka North and South City Corporations' elections and called daylong hartal in the city for Sunday in protest against what they said "anomalies in the polls".
Immediately after the hartal announcement, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif also said that the party would be "on the field" to resist any unpleasant event, terming the hartal to be against the people.
Later, Transport Owners Association announced to continue the vehicular movement during BNP's hartal.
