A case has been filed against two train drivers and a guard over Monday's devastating collision between a passenger train and a freight train in Kishoreganj's Bhairab that left 17 people dead.

Billal Hossain, younger brother of one of the victims, filed the case with Bhairab Railway police station on Tuesday (24 October) night, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the station Alim Hossain Sikder told The Business Standard on Wednesday.

"Freight train driver Jahangir Alam, assistant driver Atiqur Rahman and train guard Alamgir Hossain were accused in the case. Besides, those involved in the management of the freight train have also been accused in the case," the OC said.

On Monday, at least 17 people were killed and over 100 others injured after two trains collided in Bhairab of Kishoreganj. The accident occurred when Egarosindhur Express collided with a freight train at Bhairab station.

Three bogies that were crushed and derailed in the Bhairab train accident were removed from the site and train communication returned to normal after almost 14 hours.

The Ministry of Railways and the Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defence have formed two different investigation committees to probe the incident.
