BGB-BSF flag meeting held to exchange detained citizens near border in Dinajpur

Four individuals, two each from Bangladesh and India, who were detained at the Biral border in Dinajpur, were handed over to their respective border agencies over a flag meeting on Friday night.

The handover process was completed at around 9pm after a meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) camp company commanders, said a press release of 42nd Battalion of BGB.

According to the press release, around 11:30am on Friday, 8-10 Bangladeshi citizens were harvesting paddy on their land near the zero line of the Karuliapara border area of Dharmapur union near the border pillar 320/10-S in the area under the Dharmajan BOP in Biral. At one point, they stepped inside Indian territory by crossing the zero line.

At that time, the two Bangladeshi citizens, Enamul Haque (55), and Md Masud (27), both residents of Karuliapara, were caught by the on-duty members of the Katabari camp of the 91st Battalion of the BSF.

In the wake of the incident, Bangladeshi civilians detained two Indian citizens, Abhinath (25), son of Suren Tudu, and Philip Soren (35), son of Lurdhu Soren, who were working on land in the porous border area, and handed them over to the BGB patrol team.

Later, the commander of the 42nd Battalion of BGB, in coordination with the commandant of the 91st Battalion of BSF, arranged a flag meeting at 7:45pm to free all four, with the BSF receiving the Indian citizens and BGB taking custody of Enamul and Masud.
