BB officials urge governor to send BFIU head Shahinul on compulsory leave immediately and investigate

A section of officials of Bangladesh Bank have demanded sending AFM Shahinul Islam, head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of the central bank, into immediate compulsory leave after multiple controversial videos involving him circulated on social media.
They also urged urgent investigation against him.
"The videos have severely damaged the reputation of the state and the institution," reads a memorandum signed by the officials on 19 August 2025.
The officers also alleged that Shahinul Islam allowed the illegal withdrawal of Tk19 crore from a frozen account belonging to Ena Paribahan owner Khandakar Enayet Ullah. They said such conduct raises serious concerns about his suitability to lead a sensitive agency like BFIU.
Additionally, they also demanded the implementation of previously adopted decisions concerning politically and party-biased recruitments made in Bangladesh Bank prior to 5 August 2024, stressing that such steps should be executed on an emergency basis.
Earlier yesterday (18 August), the Bangladesh Bank launched an investigation into a "compromising video" circulating online, allegedly involving the head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), said Governor Ahsan H Mansur.
