Barishal University Chhatra Dal committee dissolved

The expired committee of the Barishal University (BU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of BNP, has been dissolved and a new committee is set to be formed soon, even though there is a ban on all political activities at the institution.

The decision taken by the organisation's central committee was announced in a press release signed by the central Office Secretary Jahangir Alam Rahat today (8 October).

The last full committee of the BU Chhatra Dal unit was formed in 2021.

Before the fall of the Awami League (AL) government on 5 August, the BU Chhatra Dal unit could not be active on campus due to the influence of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of AL.

Since 5 August, leaders of the expired Chhatra Dal committee have been engaged in several controversial activities, including occupying rooms in the dormitories and sheltering Chhatra League activists, which led to heavy criticism from students.

Following the backlash, the Chhatra Dal central committee announced the dissolution of the expired BU unit.

The first committee of the BU Chhatra Dal unit was formed in 2016. The full committee was announced in 2021 with Reza Sharif as its president and Hasan Al Hasib as general secretary.
